Policy and Participation Assistant

£9.50 per hour 

Who Cares? Scotland is the country’s only national independent, representative membership organisation for Care Experienced people.  Our vision is of a Lifetime of Equality, Respect and Love for Care Experienced people.  

The post holder will be joining the Policy Team at an exciting time, whose goals are to influence and achieve meaningful change for the Care Experienced community in Scotland. 

The post holder’s main role is supporting the Policy Team in helping Who Cares? Scotland’s achieve it’s mission is through administrative assistance, and supporting the delivery of our Annual Participation Programme. Both strands of work will complement the overarching purpose of this role, which is to influence the relevant policy landscape in a way that is informed by the lived reality of the Care Experienced population in Scotland. 

The right candidate will be an effective written communicator, and have an understanding and belief in social justice, equality and human rights. This post will sit within the Policy Team, who engage with a diverse range of stakeholders across Scotland, and work in closely with our Public Affairs, Training and Education and Community Learning Teams, therefore, the right candidate will also have strong collaborative skills with the ability to build partnerships, be a team player, whilst also being an advocate for Who Cares? Scotland.

Your report writing skills and your knowledge of policy will improve, and you will be part of an inclusive and supportive team. You will receive regular support and supervision from your manager to help you achieve this, as well as receive holistic support from our Lifelong Opportunities Team who will help you achieve your next career or education goal at the end of your role. 

This post is funded through Community Jobs Scotlandtherefore, to be eligible, you must be *Care Experienced, aged between 16 – 29 years old, be unemployed at the time of application, and not enrolled in further education beyond the start date.  

*(The term “Care Experienced” refers to anyone who has been or is currently in care. This care may have been provided in many different settings, such as: Kinship care, looked after at home, residential care, foster care, secure care – living in a secure unit, and adoption).
