Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for care experienced people. Our mission is to secure a lifetime of equality, respect, and love for care experienced people in Scotland and we currently have over 3000 members.
At the heart of Who Cares? Scotland’s work are the rights of care experienced people, and the power of their voices to bring about positive change. We provide individual relationship-based independent advocacy and a broad range of imaginative participatory opportunities for care experienced people across Scotland. We work alongside corporate parents and various communities to broaden understanding. We work with policy makers, leaders and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape law, policy and practice in a way that is shaped directly and indirectly by the lived reality of the care experienced population in Scotland, working together with others to build on the aspirations of The Promise.
The National Development Officer will work as part of the Policy and Participation Team at Who Cares? Scotland, reporting to the Policy and Participation Manager. The post holder’s main responsibility will be to support the design and delivery of participation opportunities which ensure our care experienced members across Scotland are enabled to get involved with national and international influencing priorities. In designing such opportunities, the post holder will have a crucial role in contributing to our offer of independent collective advocacy for children, young people and adults with experience of care.
You will be joining the Policy and Participation Team at an exciting time, sitting within a wider Influencing Team at Who Cares? Scotland. The right candidate will have experience of developing and implementing project plans, delivering participation and development opportunities with the intention of empowering care experienced people and influencing change, developing and delivering events, and writing for a variety of audiences, including accessible report writing. You will also have the ability to work effectively as part of a team, including cross-team working, and working with marginalised groups.
The location of the postholder is flexible, however they will be expected to travel across Scotland, with a focus on the central belt, regularly to fulfil their remit. Evening and weekend work, including occasional overnight stays, is a requirement of the role.
