My name is Lucy Christopher, I’m the new Fundraising and Partnerships Manager for Who Cares? Scotland and I’m taking part in the Kiltwalk in Edinburgh. I’m #SteppingUp to raise awareness of our work and care experience among the people I know, in the hopes that they’ll support us too. I will be going along with my mum, Eilish, who has actually taken part in several Kiltwalks before, but it will be my first! I’m also hoping the family dog, Willow, can trot along for some of the journey.

I wouldn’t really call myself an avid walker. I do enjoy walking and getting in some sightseeing but I don’t usually walk such long distances. I did complete the West Highland Way for another charity back in 2015, but that’s a while ago now so I’m a bit out of practise. I’m am excited to get going though because the cause means so much to me.

I’ve been a professional fundraiser for over 13 years, working with organisations including Capability Scotland, Tron Theatre, Alzheimer Scotland and a young carer’s charity. I’ve always been drawn to organisations which campaign for social justice, and that is definitely the case at Who Cares? Scotland.

Aside from fundraising, I have also done some mentoring and befriending with young people in the past, through organisations such as Move On and the Broomhouse Centre in Edinburgh. I’ve been so impressed by our members and our advocates out in the field, making sure that Care Experienced voices are heard and pushing towards our goal of a lifetime of Equality, Respect and Love for Care Experienced people.

As Fundraising and Partnerships Manager I hope I can play a part in making a difference, helping to achieve progress for Care Experienced people in Scotland. This is a move for radical social change and I am proud to be part of it.

By #SteppingUp and taking part in the Kiltwalk I am hoping to raise £500 alongside some other fundraising I’ll be doing. I am going to be organising a pub quiz fundraising event and some other fun activities that I hope Who Cares? Scotland staff and supporters can get involved with.

Every little helps and I’ll be extremely grateful if you could sponsor me by visiting my justgiving page: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/lucy-christopher4
