Director of Care Experienced Membership

Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for care experienced people. We want to secure a lifetime of equality, respect and love for care experienced people by 2022 in Scotland.

As part of the Senior Management Team, the Director of Care Experienced Membership role will oversee a new national Belonging Directorate. Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Director of Influencing, the post holder will have responsibility for ensuring the voices and experiences of our members are considered in everything that we do.

The post holder will direct all aspects of our Membership Programme; our membership governance procedures; our representatives; and quality assure everything we do in relation to that. They will help us influence others for the benefit of delivering on our vision. They will strategically lead and enhance the range of evidence, programmes and partners we have in place to do this across Scotland in partnership with the Director of Influencing. They will be responsible for ensuring members have a range of opportunity to be involved and they will work closely with the Directors of Operations to realise that. The post holder will oversee a Directorate that will ensure care experienced people of all ages and locations feel like they belong to a collective that is championing their rights and protecting their identity; regardless of whether they are active as members.

A key area for the Director of Care Experienced Membership will to support the Senior Management Team and CEO in the sustainability of and reputational regard for our organisation. Ensuring that decisions around our funding, our partnerships and our programmes are in line with our Strategic Plan is vital – and the post holder will be expected to represent Who Cares? Scotland on national, UK and International platforms and forums as required to fulfil this aspect of the role.

Personal lived experience of Scotland’s care and protection system is vital to the integrity and culture which the Director of Care Experienced Membership will protect and promote within Who Cares? Scotland. Professional experience of managing a diverse group of staff, programmes, partnerships and budgets within the Third or Public Sector is also required for this role.   The ability to combine personal and professional experience with a value driven approach, to act as strategic lead as well as a care experienced representative of Who Cares? Scotland is crucial.
