£23,093 – £28,866 per annum 

Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national membership and advocacy organisation for Care Experienced people.  Our strategic vision is a lifetime of equality, respect and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland.  

In partnership with Moray Council and other corporate parents, the post holder will work directly with children and young people with experience of care in an individual relationship-based advocacy role. This means to listen to what they say and supporting them to have their voices heard regarding the decisions which impact on their lives. A focus of your work will be ensuring that those voices are heard within the context of experience of education and school. You will help facilitate a broad range of participatory and engagement opportunities – whilst supporting a range of PR, awareness-raising, events and other activities, and create the conditions for collective advocacy.  This often brings young people together, allowing them to develop confidence, a sense of belonging and the opportunity to identify common issues.  You will help ensure their voices are heard by care corporate parents and communities, creating positive change.   

The post holder will need to utilise youth work and/or community engagement skills to undertake the role.  It will involve working closely with organisational partners, different services within the Local Authority and other public services in order to create new opportunities or develop existing ones.   

You will be working within Moray at an exciting time, with a well-established Champions Board process, and the voices of those with experience of care growing in power, individually and collectively – bringing with them insight, challenge, hope and change. You will be part of a growing and dynamic North team in WC?S, working closely with key partners across Moray’s corporate parenting network. 

The right candidate will have a relevant qualification, to a minimum HNC/SVQ 3 (SCQF level 7) in a discipline related to working with children and young people, or equivalent work experience.  You will have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.  You will be able to form positive working relationships with children and young people, and maintain links with professional partners.  You will also have experience delivering training or engaging a range of audiences and working collaboratively.  You will be committed to children’s rights, inclusive working, equal opportunities, and believe that young people can make transformative change happen in their lives if given the opportunity.  A full driving licence and use of a car is also required, due to the regional remit of the post.
