Navigating Convictions for Fair Recruitment Training Event
30 January @ 10:00 am - 12:30 pm
Through our Annual Participation Programme, we are able to design and deliver thematic and collaborative training sessions for Corporate Parents, offering rich insight into topics and issues identified as important by our members.
These sessions are open to all interested Corporate Parents to attend and to learn more about how best to meet their duties in these key areas.
Join Who Cares? Scotland and Disclosure Scotland for an online collaborative training event, designed to support all Corporate Parents across Scotland in developing recruitment processes which are inclusive of Care Experienced people who may have previous convictions. Discrimination against Care Experienced people takes many forms, and they can face specific circumstances that can lead to higher rates of criminal convictions. As such, it’s important that Care Experienced people are supported through the Disclosure process and to overcome barriers to employment, such as criminal records.
The Training and Education team from Who Cares? Scotland will share some insights into the hugely important role of Corporate Parents as employers, as well as what we know from listening first-hand to Care Experienced people talk about their experiences of stigma and discrimination. We will look at how stigma affects the Care Experienced community and the long-lasting effects that assumptions and stereotypes can have on Care Experienced lives in relation to criminal records.
Disclosure Scotland will share how to explore convictions during the recruitment process to better understand the wider context. This will enable Corporate Parents to clear obstacles from the path for Care Experienced people who are seeking employment. This will include a deeper dive into the Disclosure process regarding convictions.
