Who Cares? Scotland is Scotland’s only national independent membership organisation for Care Experienced people. Our mission is to secure a lifetime of equality, respect, and love for Care Experienced people in Scotland.
At the heart of Who Cares? Scotland’s work are the rights of Care Experienced people, and the power of their voices to bring about positive change. We provide individual lifelong relationship-based independent advocacy and a broad range of imaginative participatory and engagement opportunities for Care Experienced people across Scotland. We work alongside Corporate Parents and communities to broaden understanding and create change. We work with policy makers, leaders, and elected representatives locally and nationally to shape law, policy, and practice, working together to build on the aspirations of The Promise and secure positive change.
We are looking for a dynamic and skilled Campaigns Officer to join our team. This role is essential in driving our campaign strategies, influencing policy, and amplifying the voices of Care Experienced people. You will work closely with journalists, elected members, and key stakeholders to secure media coverage, shape policy, and support our Empowered Voices Programme.
As Campaigns Officer, you will collaborate with key journalists to execute campaign strategies and influence media coverage. Your role will involve working with elected members and decision-makers to impact policies that benefit Care Experienced people. You will draft and distribute press releases to support our campaign work and secure media coverage. Additionally, you will maintain and manage our political contact programme, ensuring compliance with the Lobbying (Scotland) Act 2016.
You will support the delivery of our Empowered Voices Programme, which is designed to empower Care Experienced people to influence decision-makers and the media. Ensuring that the views and advocacy evidence of Care Experienced members shape our policy responses and campaigning efforts will also be a key part of your role. In addition, you will develop clear and compelling communication materials for diverse audiences, keeping Care Experienced members and staff informed about relevant policy and practice developments through political monitoring and horizon scanning.
Working collaboratively with partner organisations and representing Who Cares? Scotland in strategic forums will be essential. You may also be required to perform other duties as agreed with the Manager and Director.
You should have professional experience in developing strategies for participation of lived experience in policy influencing, as well as a proven ability to write press releases, and secure media coverage. As well as possessing an understanding of the Scottish media landscape, The Promise, social policy, and current issues affecting Care Experienced people, you have a background in delivering evidence-based campaigns and creating effective social media content.
If you are passionate about making a difference and have the skills and experience we are looking for, we would love to hear from you. For an informal conversation about this opportunity please contact Melissa Weir, Campaigns Coordinator, at mweir@whocaresscotland.org.
