Keeping The Promise: Building Communities that Care Conference
24 August @ 9:30 am - 3:00 pm
Scotland’s first ever Keeping The Promise: Building Communities that Care Conference on Thursday 24th August, 09.30 am – 3 pm at The Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, hosted by Who Cares? Scotland.
As the national membership body for Care Experienced people, we’ve heard loud and clear how stigma affects children, young people and adults with lived experience of care. Negative portrayals of care experience in the media and popular culture can all contribute to discrimination which can start in childhood and last for a lifetime.
And though Scotland may be working to Keep The Promise, we know that true change will not be felt until the general public truly knows and understands care experience.
Join us at Scotland’s inaugural Keeping The Promise: Building Communities That Care Conference, to hear more about some of the powerful work being undertaken across Scotland, to challenge public attitudes and build stronger communities for everyone.
Who should attend?
Professionals with an interest in understanding how public education can lead to transformational change, and those keen to use their roles to create supportive and inclusive communities where everyone can thrive.
Registration is now closed to individuals wishing to attend the conference. If you would like to be added to the waiting list please email events@whocaresscotland.org.
What does the programme include?
Networking opportunities and contributions from powerful speakers including novelist Dr Kirsty Capes, and inputs from the Scottish Government, The Promise Scotland, Education Scotland, Each And Every Child and the John Lewis Partnership. You will hear more about:
- Dedicated public education activity in schools, local communities and with employers, all designed to build a more inclusive and supportive Scotland for everyone.
- And how you can be part of the solution that ensures we finally deliver the transformational change that is needed to Keep The Promise.

Do you have an exciting piece of work to showcase on the day?
Our marketplace is now open! We are offering spaces for individuals and organisations to exhibit the work they are doing to challenge the stigma that affects Care Experienced people. If you have a project you would like to tell others about, please let us know by the 15th of August . Places in the marketplace are free of charge and represent a great way to network and share best practice with others.
