This will be busy year for us as we are celebrating our 30th
anniversary...
Young People Appointed to National Positions
Ten young people
have been appointed to the Board of Directors of Who Cares? Scotland,
an increase from six in previous years. The Chair and
Vice-Chair posts continue to be filled by young people. The
group has now joined with Director, Heather Gray and adult Board members in making vital decisions about the
future of the organisation. Over the next year, the young
Board members will attend the Board meetings and participate
in steering Who Cares? Scotland in its 30th
anniversary year.
National Participation Focus Group
We will be starting
the new Participation Focus Group on the 8th March 2008.
We hope to be consulting the group on a variety of topics
and also the group assisting us with the 30th Anniversary planning
of activities and events. We
have a new group of around 12 young people this year. The
group has been growing slowly over the past two years….
let’s hope this continues!
The first task for
some of the group was a consultation on the role of the
Looked After and Accommodated Children’s (LAAC) Nurse. This
is took place on Wednesday the 6th February 2008 at Who
Cares? Scotland National Office.
We hope that we have
another really productive and fun year. Thank you to all
those young people who took part last year and good luck to
the group this year.
Gala Concert - 5th November at
the Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum, Glasgow
In November, there will be a Gala
Concert and Dinner at the Kelvingrove Art Gallery &
Museum in Glasgow to
raise funds for Who Cares? Scotland. This will be a
spectacular event with a James Bond theme.
The highlight of the evening will
be the auction of a painting donated by Scots
artist, John Lowrie Morrison.
The Gala Concert is being sponsored by some of
Scotland’s leading business entrepreneurs.
Glasgow-based company Spymasters- the world's only
provider of real life espionage surveillance
scenarios - will be one of the events principal
sponsors. www.spymasters.org
“Snowfall over
Linlithgow
Palace”
The painting was used by
the First Minister and his wife as
their official
2007 Christmas card.
Within the Peer
Education Project at Who Cares? Scotland, a group of seven young
people are currently being trained to be peer educators in
drug and alcohol awareness in the hope that they can then go
out and speak to other young people who are looked after and
accommodated in Glasgow, about the issues around drug and
alcohol use.
The Project is funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation
for Scotland and Comic
Relief.
