Our workers are always looking for
young people to help out with local and national
consultations and focus groups.
If you think that there are
things that should be changed in your area then
speak to your worker and see if they can help you do
something about it. Your worker might come to you
asking for your help and to give your opinion on a
certain subject. Remember everything you say helps
to make changes for you and other young people’s
care in the future.
Below are some real examples involving young people.
Recently workers consulted with young
people on mental health issues, throughcare and
aftercare issues, drug and alcohol issues and what it’s
like in secure care.
Consultations are always for a good
reason and the results don’t just get forgotten about.
Maybe it’s because your local authority has asked to
hear what you’ve got to say on a certain subject and
then your ideas are used to help make or change policies
or practice guidelines for the better.
Sometimes the government ask Who
Cares? Scotland to speak to young people because they
want to change something and your opinion helps let them
see what life is really like for you.
Two of our Ayrshire workers recently
held events for young people. One helped a local
authority get young people together to look at the
review system and how they could improve it for young
people, The other brought young people in Foster Care
together for an under and over 12’s consultation and fun
day.
Other workers helped involve young
people in the production of a DVD that looked at health
issues for young people throughout Scotland and another
one looking at drug issues.
